Due to the ongoing pandemic, games that offer a fun and easy way to spend time with your friends have found a new streak of popularity. Among Us has been one of such games.
This game allows you to assume a role of one of the astronauts trying to do their job (operate the equipment, keep the ship going, survive), while one of them secretly tries to kill them. The premise may sound complex, but it’s a very simple and enjoyable game. Although given its popularity on Twitch, you probably already know this.
Regardless, this simplistic and fun nature of gameplay allows Among Us to work at absolutely the same level of comfort on mobile, PC, or anywhere else. The developers are planning many ports in the future, and an Xbox port is one of the main goals.
This website is all about the content available to the players on the Xbox version of this game. Right now, it’s not available for either of the Xbox consoles, but that’s about to change. When the game releases for these consoles later in 2021, you’ll be able to play with no less (actually, with even greater) comfort than now.
The release date has not been announced as of the beginning of 2021. However, it’s plain that developing the Xbox version of Among Us is a top priority for InnerSloth – the developers – at the moment. They have said before that the pause at developing new content is due to their porting efforts.
Most notably, they’ve been said to work diligently on porting their game to Nintendo Switch and Xbox. The Switch version came out in December, which means the port for Microsoft’s consoles is bound to appear very soon. It’s unclear exactly when, however.
Naturally, at this instance, the game is being fitted for several consoles, unlike the Switch, which is just one model.
The game’s experience notoriously doesn’t change much whether you play on PC, on mobile, or Switch, for that matter. The only two buttons (that’s to say – actions) you’ll need is for moving and interacting. Xbox obviously enables you to move very conveniently with the help of its sticks – the experience will only improve.
As for the additional content, it’s unlikely that there’ll be any. InnerSloth gave none when they released the Nintendo port. Thus, they’ll probably not add anything new to the game or this specific version when it’s released.
Nonetheless, you’re bound to have a better time than on PC and definitely better than on mobile. After all, you’ll be able to play on a large TV screen. It doesn’t just allow you to take notice of even the smallest details in the game, but also lets you lay back on the sofa or couch and play at a comfortable distance.
The Xbox port is going to have all the content available on every other version of the game, including the maps, accessories, and more. The textures are bound to be slightly better because the base game has a very poor resolution and is full of visible pixels.
What is known is that Among Us is going to be ported on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S simultaneously. It’s not going to be on Xbox 360, but you can just as easily play it on your phone for free.
Moreover, you can play it right now if you have an Xbox Game Pass for PC. This Pass is a service sold by Microsoft to Xbox and Windows 10 users (separately). Both versions cost $9.99/month and include access to a large number of games, most of which are, obviously, Microsoft-released.
The Xbox Pass is not the same thing as the console release. Right now, the game is only available on the PC version of this service. However, Microsoft doesn’t usually exclude titles from just one version – if it’s available on PC, it’s very soon going to appear on the console, and vice versa (unless the game is an Xbox exclusive).
Among Us has been available on Xbox Game Pass for PC since December 10, 2020.
Installing mods on PC is very simple. You just need to place mod files in your game folder and be a host for the game in order to enable the mods. On Xbox, the list of add-ons and the way you install them is much more limited. The developers will have to include specific add-ons into the list, which can be accessed simply.
It works this way with Minecraft, but whether it’ll work the same with Among Us is unclear. Odds are, they will – InnerSloth usually supports the modifications development for their game. After all, they are very useful at prolonging the game’s life.
Right now, there are tons of mods for Among Us. When the game is out for Xbox, we’ll list all sorts of content you may like to play with on Xbox. But right now, stick with us for news.
It’s currently unknown, and given the experience with Switch and other platforms, the news of the upcoming release is going to appear very shortly before the actual release. Even so, it’s not going to take a very long time – the developers are mostly tinkering with technical problems and improving the performance.
It’s highly unlikely that the game will come out later than summer 2021. The exact date is unknown as of now.
The game is notoriously affordable. It costs about $5 on Steam, costs nothing on mobile, and $9.99/month are needed to access it on Xbox Pass for Windows 10 (of course, in a package with tons of other games). What is 100% clear is that you’ll be able to play it with the Game Pass for consoles anyway. If you have one – you’re all set.
Yes, it will be. The newest Microsoft consoles are one of the reasons InnerSloth started working on the port for Xbox. In addition, the game is going to be released for Xbox One as well. However, the Xbox 360 version is not planned. After all, it’s not an extremely old generation.
Furthermore, the game is available on Windows 10 as a part of the Xbox Game Pass.
If the question is whether other consoles have Among Us, then the answer is no. It has been available on Nintendo Switch for a while now, and the developers are planning on creating the version for Playstation 4, too.
The latter, however, is not yet announced. The developers have a far better relationship with Microsoft, so it’s even more unclear whether they are going to work on the Sony port.
The first real advantage of playing it on Xbox over PC is the screen size, but it’s not the only technical difference. Of course, the character is going to be controlled far smoother because the stick is a lot more comfortable to handle than a keyboard or even the digital stick on a mobile.
Moreover, the game is about to experience a slight improvement in graphic performance because the players will obviously play it on large TV monitors and the current high-res appearance of the game is not acceptable. However, the developers are more focused on technical issues.
For instance, they’ve been struggling with the chat capabilities, and they’ll be very different from the usual.
